CORONADO WOMAN’S CLUB COROSCOPE - May 2011

PRESIDENT*S MESSAGE -- Happy Springtime everyone! It's fun to see all our home fronts dolled up with ribbon awards on display. Coronado puts on its best dress for the Flower show events. Congratulations and thanks to all who worked at the Flower Show, especially Pearl Szymanski, chairman of our Section. I guess we all know a little more about ORCHIDS now! This is a project that always impresses the judges at District because it involves so many members and so many hours of volunteer time. Annual club awards will be presented on April 30. Maybe we'll win a few!

*At the May 4 meeting, the chairman of each section (Bridge, Crafts, Creative Cookery, Travel & Treasures and Evening) will be asked to give a short report on their activities this year. If you have any pictures or mementos for the Scrapbook, bring them. Betsy

MAY MEETING & PROGRAM -- Our program at the May 4 meeting will be a total suprise. It is such a mystery that even the editor of the Coroscope can't find out but the day promises to be interesting. Lunch is $25 so please get your check to Diana Saxton at 908 D Avenue by Sunday, May 1 or call her at 537-0009.

ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION WALK -- If you attended the April meeting, you know we are going to be listed as a community sponsor for the Alzheimer Association Walk April 30 from 3:00-5:00 PM at Silver Strand State Park. Watch for the banner that week in the median on Orange Avenue. Though we are not actively involved, you are urged to support this worthy cause by walking or contributing.

DEDICATING LIBRARY MATERIAL -- The CWC Board of Directors has voted to donate books or magazine subscriptions to the Coronado Library dedicated to the memories of four members who died during the last 12 months: Molly Shea, Margaret Brunton, Mag Woodson and Jeanette Cronin. We will try to choose a subject that reflects the interests of each of these ladies. If you have any suggestions, please contact Betsy Vernetti.

CREATIVE COOKERY -- Pat Cummins and Clesi Neel will host the annual Salad Pot-Luck at 11:30 AM on Friday May 13 at Pat's home at 560 Alameda. Bring your favorite salad for 6-8 people. Cost is $5.00 for the extras. Call Connie Kinzler (437-1177) by Monday, May 9 or take a check to 720 Coronado Ave.

TRAVEL & TREASURES -- On April 27, we'll visit the Swaddee Thai Restaurant at 1001 C Ave for a midday meal. Separate checks will be provided. Make your reservation by April 22 by calling Jean Hopfinger (435-4813) or Barbara Walker (435-0840).

WAYS & MEANS -- It is shredding time again. Mark Saturday, May 21, between 9 AM and Noon on your calendar as a time to rid your collection of old paperwork that needs to be destroyed. Cost is only $7 for a box or bag. Just go to the parking lot of the Union Bank and let the pros make confetti of your stuff in quick order. We really owe our thanks to Union Bank for being such a good neighbor. The Bank's management has now generously agreed to donate pens with their logo to be given as part of an amenity package to those attending our District Convention. Thanks to Kathryn Keitzer who is our contact.

MAY BIRTHDAYS -- Ginny Parham, 5/11; Stasia Dobrowolski, 5/13; Jan Smith, 5/16; Lola Zimmerman, 5/23; Pat Cooley, 5/31.

CRAFT SECTION -- Everyone is urged to continue saving corks from wine bottles so they can be turned into beautiful wreaths
